The final blog of my internship in Cabo Verde
It is time. After 3 month on the island of Sal I am heading home... I set out on this internship to experience a real hydraulic engineering project first hand and looking back, I have had a very nice time here!
I fell in love with the island and its people. Everybody is so nice, very different from the European cultures.
About my work, I am happy with the report that I have delivered, now lets hope that my supervisor in Delft will be happy as well ;). The next step is to experience a hydraulic project in the Netherlands and compare the way of work in Africa with the way of work in Europe. Although the work gets done in Sal, I can imagine that some processes are handled differently in Europe by different contractors.
I am leaving for Singapore to start my masters of hydraulic engineering and am looking very much forward to this after seeing the work in real life. I am doing things backward if you think about it: Instead of first learning about building harbours and than looking at the real process, I first examined the real thing and now I go back to the books. It puts things into perspective. Instead of just calculating on things you read in books, I now have a pretty good idea of what it is that I will be calculating on!
Many thank to all my colleges and special special thanks to mister Karsten, the resident engineer for all his valuable advise.
Ate mais tarde!
