First day at work
From now on I will be updating my blog from Ho Chi Min City (HCMC) aka Saigon in Vietnam. I landed at HCMC airport 3 days ago still recovering from a jet lag. However, today I started my first day at the office. My stay in Ho Chi Min City is at the second base of the Water Resource University. This institute kindly provided me with an student dormitory and some guidance on my work. Yesterday I rented a moto-bike for a month to come about in the City. Because taking a taxi here is just one big scam on my money.
Besides meeting new faces and getting involved in a city full of people/cars and moto-biks which is in my eyes the most organized chaos on earth. I also start with the second part of my thesis modeling the Gulf of Thailand. Today I go accounted with Mr. Bao, he is the head of the university. I told him all about my project and made a first step in collecting some data. Unfortunately the data also here is quite limited but I still have hope. Besides data digging I started my first the first phase of the second part. This is to calibrate the made 2D hydrodynamic model in Delft3D. The calibration will be one tidal data. For now this is still based on predicted tidal data. My model is set up between Ha Tien and Rach Gia. Somewhere between these two cities the bypass should discharge the peak water from the Mekong River.
I will keep you updated on my progression here in Vietnam!
