About
My name is Merel Witteveen (24). I’m a second year graduate student of the Masters program “Meteorology, Physical Oceanography and Climate” at Utrecht University, the Netherlands. As part of my graduation project I’m doing an internship at Alkyon Hydraulic Consultancy and Research in the department Coastal and Marine Systems. The internship consists of 2 parts: the first part in the Netherlands and the second part in California (U.S.).This spring I will be conducting research for Alkyon Hydraulic Consultancy and Research at Stanford University. I will examine the effects of sea level rise along the Californian coast. In order to do so I will develop a hydro dynamical model to simulate the water flow in the Pacific ocean. In the future, this model will be accurate enough to use in operation prediction systems, providing online water level and velocity predictions.
During my stay in the U.S. I will work together closely with a research group at Stanford University that is studying the effects of sea level rise in several important ports throughout the world.
At this blog, I will regularly share my adventures!
