- Objective
Assessment of the feasibility of coal transport on the Musi River
Project information
The rationale of the study is based on a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of South Sumatera Province and Pelindo II in July 2009 regarding “Cooperation Plan for Development of Port Facility and Coal Transport Corridor on Musi River, South Sumatera Province”. In order to comply with the prevailing stipulation and provide a basis for a more appropriate, accurate and accountable policy making, a study to assess the viability of the project is required. A Pre-Feasibility Study was conducted to identify the viability of coal transport by way of the Musi River in South Sumatera, and the results indicate that the project is feasible to continue. The next step is to conduct a more detailed study on more specific and technical matters i.e. financial, technical design, environment, construction and operational aspects of the project in the form of a Feasibility Study.
Description of project
The objective of feasibility study is to follow up the result of pre-feasibility study by examining further viability of development of coal transport facilities on the Musi River which includes:
a) Land/river transshipment elements;
b) River transportation elements;
c) Marine transshipment facility elements;
d) Preparation of the inputs for the AMDAL process (EIA process).
Common to all studies is a requirement to address the environmental impacts of the coal transport corridor, and to understand river and coastal environment it will operate in.
