Description of project
The study is part of the 2g@there programme Yangtze: transport, logistics and related infrastructures in the Yangtze Corridor. The programme has a duration of four years (2007-2010) and is in the final stage. The programme is a bilateral cooperation between the Dutch Government (EVD en V&W) and Dutch companies assembled under the Sino Netherlands Platform for infrastructure, transport and logistics. One could say that this programme is a vehicle for the private sector to participate in projects related to the Memorandum of Understanding between the two Ministries of Transport and the Government-to-Government co-operation projects. The enormous growth in the Chinese transport sector has increased the need to raise security and safety levels and to decrease the external effects and energy use. In the last phase of the 2g@there programme the projects under execution to a high extent focus at this issue of safety, security and environment. The study will determine whether a clustered approach in this sector, in analogy with the airport sector where a clustered approach proves to be successful, is desirable and realistic. It will also determine the potential participating companies on the Netherlands side, and develop a strategic plan for the market approach.
