- Objective
The objective of this project is to gain insight in the effects of sea level rise on tidal motion around the Port of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
Project information
ARCADIS is frequently involved in work related to the Californian Coast. ARCADIS US is interested in having a basic flow model along the Californian coastline with a focus on LA. The model may be used as a boundary conditions generator for various projects in this region.
ARCADIS US has good relations with Stanford University. Stanford University is involved in a global sea level rise impact assessment.
In this project both aspects are combined, where Merel is working to develop this model and has a first application on the impact of sea level rise for the port of LA.
Description of project
Alkyon is developing a model along the Californian coast in order to predict the water movement in the Pacific Ocean. The purpose of the model is to gain insight in the effects of sea level rise on tidal motion. Merel Witteveen will develop the model as part of her graduation project at Utrecht University. She will be working partly at the Alkyon office in Marknesse (Netherlands) and partly at Stanford University (CA, USA) where there is a large research group studying the effects of sea level rise around ports.
