Leaving for Beijing

My last acitivities in The Netherlands and departure

At the time of writing this update, I am somewhere high above Germany, heading towards my destination; Beijing.

The after-effects of the closing down of Schiphol yesterday (because of the volcanic ash), caused the airplane to depart with a 2hour delay.

Because of the delay I’ll arrive at around 14:30 Beijing time, therefore canceling my original plan to start working at my new and old work location (Waterborne Transport Institute) tomorrow.

Looking back on my last activities in The Netherlands, I interviewed the last two companies and I wrote my final thesis proposal, which I had to hand in before I left for China.

I also had contact with the WTI about the arranging of appointments with relevant persons in China. Besides that, the firm IHC Merwede invited me to hold an interview at their premise in Beijing. In conclusion, the planned activities are getting more definite.

After I finished the above mentioned activities, there was only half a day left before I would leave for China. So, this morning I bought some small –of course typical Dutch- presents for my colleagues at the WTI.

The next update will contain an elaboration of my first activities in China. I’ll also write about my personal experiences during the first week in China.
